Beach hopping in Costa Rica

During our previous stay in Costa Rica we visited quite a few beaches in the region of Guanacaste. I have to say that I was pretty impressed by the beaches despite the fact that other people told us before that their beaches aren’t so nice. Here are my favorite ones.

1. Playa Conchal

Playa Conchal near the town of Brasilito is certainly one of the most impressive beaches I have seen,  perfect for beach walking and swimming. The water can be a bit rough around the high tide. It’s mostly filed with local Tico and guest of the Westin resort but it never feels crowded. If you are lucky you see our hear howler monkeys around the beach. It’s a beach lovers parad

2. Playa de los Piratas

It’s also called Playa Real and can be reached via a dusty bumpy road between Brasilito and Tamarindo. It’s very secluded and we had the beach almost for ourself. The beach is light brown and walking around the scenic location was for us very relaxing and we got this Robinson

feeling.

3. Playa Azucar

Playa Azucar is a few minutes north of Potrero and can be accessed through a hotel there. We saw a few people there swimming and the water didn’t seem to be to rough for swimming. We regretted that we did not bring our swim outfits but walking around was a

pleasure as well.

4. Playa Grande

This is a long wide beach neat Tamarindo and apparently a favorite spot for surfing. You can probably spend here hours just walking along the beach and soak u

5. Playa Potrero

Unlike other beaches in this area,  this beach is a dark brown sand beach which is suprisingly scenic with the backdrop of the surrounding hills. There are a few vendors around but it doesn’t hey very crowded.
