Port Renfrew is a small westcoast town approximately 2 hours from Victoria and 1 hour from Sooke at the end of a long winding road. We planned to see the town, the Avatar Grove and the tide pools.
The town is exactly what one expect from the westcoast, remote ..2 coffeshop and you think why didn’t we stay here for some days. The Westcoast trail attracts a lot of hikers and backpackers. The town has a lovely boardwalk and wharf with great view
s.
We headed towards the Avatar Grove an recently discovered area with the tallest trees on Vancouver Island and endangered by logging. Our drive brought us through small logging ro
ads.
Finally we found the entrance to the Avatar Grove and the moment we stepped into the forest we understood why it has the name Avatar Grove…you get the feeling that you walk through a filming location for the movie
Avatar.
We felt like we have been transferred back in time. Fotos cannot show how unique this place is. We headed back to Port Renfrew in order to see the botanical beach, tide pools which become revealed
at low tide.
Since it was already late we had to drive back but we had this wonderful feeling that this was pretty much a perfect day and we enjoyed every second of it
I love those massive tree! Wow!
Me too unfortunately there is a lot of logging around it
